The Future of Fashion is Science
For my senior thesis project, my team and I undertook extensive research into sustainable fashion, with a particular focus on biomaterials. As part of this project, we explored the use of scoby leather, a biomaterial made from kombucha culture, as an alternative to traditional leather. Through our research and experimentation, we grew and cultivated the material ourselves, and tested various methods of refining its texture and appearance. Once the SCOBY leather was harvested, I used the leather to design and create a simple bustier top. Our project exemplified the transformative potential of biomaterials and sustainable fashion, and I am proud to have contributed to this important field of study.
